In conjunction with the pan-alpine 1865 celebrations marking 150 years since the golden age of alpinism, this exhibition will focus on Chamonix tourism in 1865. Using the unique immersive perspective of stereoscopy, we are transported back to the 1860s - shivering at the awe-inspiring glaciers, admiring ladies in their crinolines among the icy crevasses and ascending Mont Blanc with alpinists of the epoch. Miss Jemima Morrell, who travelled with Thomas Cook's first tour of the Alps in 1863, annotates our visit with her contemporary observations.
