SUMMARY:‘...in the footsteps of Henry Taunt'
DESCRIPTION:Views of the River Thames from the past 125 years will be
on show at the Corinium Museum this summer thanks to images from past
and present photographers.\n\nThe ‘<i>...in the footsteps of Henry T
aunt'</i> photography exhibition will run at the Cirencester museum fr
om Sunday July 5th to Saturday September 5th and will show fascinating
views of the Thames through historical and contemporary photographs.\
n\nVictorian photographer Henry Taunt, who used cutting-edge location
photography techniques, captured images of the Thames from the 1860s o
nwards and later produced a series of pocket guides to the river compl
ete with his photos.\n\nAlongside Henry Taunt's photos of the Thames w
ill be very similar views from contemporary professional photographers
Graham Diprose and Jeff Robins, who have both been inspired by Taunt'
s Thames photography.\n\nGraham Diprose currently works as the Lead Tu
tor in Photography in the School of Graphic Design at the London Colle
ge of Communication and has produced a number of exhibitions and books
, while Jeff Robins is also a lecturer at the University of the Arts i
n London and has an extensive advertising and marketing photography po
rtfolio.\n\nThis historical exhibition, in association with English He
ritage and Oxfordshire County Council, combines Taunt's images with Di
prose's and Robin's modern equivalents to make fascinating ‘then and
now' views that capture changes in the Thames over the past 125 years
.\n\nThe exhibition, opens on July 5thand is free entry to all.\n\nExh
ibition organiser Graham Diprose is also delivering an afternoon talk
to tie in with exhibition on July 2nd from 2.30pm to 4pm. Join Graham
as he describes the life and times of Henry Taunt and why he has been
so significant to travel and leisure on the Thames over the past 130 y
ears. The cost for the talk is £5 per adult, with a 10% discount for
Museum card holders.\n\nThe Corinium Museum is open from Monday to Sat
urday, 10am-5pm, and on Sundays from 2pm-5pm. It is also open on Bank
Holiday Mondays.\n\nFor further information about the exhibition or an
y events and exhibits being held, please contact the Cirencester venue
