Event Description

A weekend conference organised by the Royal Photographic Society's historical group and the Scottish Society for the History of Photography. Based at the Mitchell Library, Glasgow, with its extensive photographic collections, events will also take place at Glasgow University Library and the Art Gallery special collections. Speakers include David Bruce, Bill Buchanan, Ian Leith, Donald Stewart and Professor Nigel Thorpe.

The programmes starts with a visit to Glasgow University Library with a guided tour of the paper conservation labs and teh University's special collections. Saturday: Historical Group AGM; SSHoP annual Annan lecture; Bill Buchanan on the Annas and lectures from David Bruce and Donald Stewart.

Friday 1st May

2.30 p.m. Visit to Glasgow University Special Collections including a visit to the new paper conservation area. Limited numbers – please book in advance with Donald Stewart (01592-840277)

Saturday 2nd May

All events at the Mitchell Library, Glasgow.

10.00 a.m. Historical Group AGM

11.00 a.m. The Annan Lecture (SSHoP)

12.30 p.m. SSHoP AGM

1.30 p.m. The Treasures of the Mitchell Library.
A special selection from the photographic treasures held by the Library and its Archive.

To be followed by talks from Bill Buchanan FRPS on the Annans, father and son, David Bruce FRPS on a topic of Scottish photography and Ian Leith on George Fowler Jones.
