These two study days, held in partnership with the National Gallery, explore Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s shared passion for art and their roles as patrons and collectors. Topics include their often-informal dealings with contemporary artists, their tastes in Old Master paintings and Prince Albert’s interest in photography and art history. Speakers include William Vaughan on the London art world in 1837, Susan Foister on Prince Albert’s German pictures, Jonathan Marsden on Albert’s art advisors, and Charlotte Gere on Queen Victoria’s jewellery.
