Carte de visite album

Dear friends, I am writing a MA dissertation on six albums of carte-de-visite. I'm looking for help in finding details about album factories in XIX century Europe. I know Mr. Antoine Maitre was the most important album producer in Dijon (1860s), and he was able to export his products all over Europe, so I wonder if there were similar factories in other coutries. Have you ever heard about "BREUL & ROSEMBERG" from Wien? or about Mr. Plumier who "had developed a system of keeping portraits in an album" (W. C. Darrah)? or about F.R. Grumel (Switzerland - Geneva), who patented "card albums" in 1862? Unfortunately Italian literature is very poor, I can't get enough information and I hope someone can suggest me new ways for my bibliographical research. Thank you

    Dear Mr. Pritchard.,
Thank You for showing interest in the matter.

My dissertation concern six albums of carte de visite owned by an italian museum. They contain about 500 photographs by several authors, but not only italian.
As cartes de visite were produced "industrially", I think the same kind of production could be related to the carte albums. So I wonder who produced and sold carte albums in Europe during the golden years of CdV: I know albums were not only craftmade by photographers, but there were also factories specialized in making albums. I'm searching any examples to confirm what I suppose about carte albums producers.

I would be grateful if You have suggestions or would share your sources.

    Thank You

  • Is your research extending to Britain (which is also part of Europe) or just concentrating on continental Europe? If the former I am happy to share some of my own PhD research and sources.
