Information and discussion on all aspects of British photographic history
Hello, I am seeking some advice on Muybridge's Mariposa Grove, California photographs which he took in around 1854. I believe he was travelling with Carleton Watkins. I have a mammoth plate albumen photograph of the 'Grizzly Giant', a 6,000 year old tree. It's companion piece (identically mounted) shows Muybridge at the base of the General Grant tree. The consensus is that the latter is a self-portrait. I would like to be able to attribute the Grizzly Giant photo to Muybridge as well. Would anyone out there be able to recognise his work? Kind regards.
