EGERTON DAGUERREOTYPES

Does anyone have any information about the Egerton brothers, Jeremiah and John, who were the subject of litigation by Richard Beard in 1845? I have read what’s available (R. D. Wood, et al), but I am looking specifically for any daguerreotype or daguerreotype case which can be identified as having (possibly) been made by the Egertons.

Many thanks. Reply here, or contact mijaco@tin.it.

  • Dear Richard, many thanks for the suggestions. Your database looks excellent, and I will gratefully make use of it.

I had already found references, mainly from published articles by R. Derek Wood (with whom I am in contact), but I was/am hoping to locate an example of an actual daguerreotype that may have been made by the Egertons for the purposes of comparison.

I own a remarkable early English daguerreotype which I am trying to maker-identify (with a view to publication), as it is clearly neither a Beard nor a Claudet studio product.
    Mike.

I have included all of the referenced works in their entirety in a Dropbox link below. I have several his on French journals which I can provide if this project is still active.

  • 2768208128?profile=originalFollowing up on the Egerton request, has anyone ever seen this daguerreotype case pattern before? If so, can you relate it to a specific British daguerreotype studio?
