Information and discussion on all aspects of British photographic history
We at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts have just opened the photographic exhibition Martha Swope: In Rehearsal. Swope, a self-described "dancer with a Brownie," specialized in performance photography, documenting Broadway, ballet and modern dance for the New York Times and other publications and books. From her first published work, coverage of the original rehearsals of West Side Story, through the mid-1990s, the Swope archives, acquired by the Library in 2010 comprises over 1,000,000 prints, negatives, slides and contact sheets. The exhibit is on view at our Lincoln Center facility through January 26, 2013. Check hours at www.nypl.org
