Information and discussion on all aspects of British photographic history

George Swan Nottage - London Stereoscopic & Photographic Co.

I wonder if anybody has info on George Swan Nottage who founded the London Stereoscopic & Photographic Co.

I have found mention that he lived in Essex in his early life (before 1851) and before his marriage, but cannot find any details. The Nottage family seems to have connections with Essex.

Any assistance welcome

I have just had a look on ancestry , and the 1861 census which has George Swan Nottage age 30 , managing partner , London stereoscopic co , as a visitor to Brighton - and he is shown on that as being born in Cripplegate London . That has to be the right man . The Essex connection may come in as there is a George S Nottage in earlier censuses from Essex who was a student at Cambridge , probably not the right man  . There is a George Nottage without the S of the right age who lived in London in the 1841 & 1851 censuses .

Dear Robert

Have you seen the entry at: http://www.photolondon.org.uk/pages/details.asp?pid=5707 ?

Best
