Recently, I found two cabinet portraits of “The Marquis Tseng” in Cheshire. He was a Chinese diplomat who was minister (or ambassador) to the courts of London, Paris, and St. Petersburg between 1878-1885. The Marquis Tseng move to Folkestone, Kent in 1883.
The portrait on the left was taken by Walter BLACKALL, a photographer, at 9 Church Street, Folkestone.
I am trying to find some background information on Walter BLACKALL, and would be very grateful if you could help me to find any more information about him.

I am curious to find which year or how long had Blackall worked for “Hills & Saunders”?
I checked “The Diary of Marquis Tseng”, and found out that the photo on the left was taken on the afternoon of Oct. 22, 1883. http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=1&res=9F03E4DA...
Marquis Tseng’s photos kept by “National Archives” confirm that Marquis Tseng, at least, took four pictures that day.
The photo on right was taken on the afternoon of Nov. 9, 1883.
Marquis Tseng, at least, took 3 pictures that day.
Other two images can be found in US.
Thanks again,

Dear Ray
I think Tseng wrote a memoir so perhaps he refers to being photographed in those writings. He was quite a character. GaelRegards,
Ray

Yes, Terry Bennett has provided me with a lot of information.
Mr. Ian P. Ellis provided the following information about photographer Walter Blackall:
