I am hoping someone can help me identify the rank or branch of military service that this man is from.

The sitter's name etc. This is a Sanger Shepherd 3 color transparency  process from circa 1900-1905. I have no idea of the photographer's identity at this time. As you can see there is a bit of a color registration shift inherent in the process.

Hello Hugh

Perhaps the rank or regiment could be identified from the collar or helmet by specialists at the National Army Museum or an online community such as the British & Commonwealth Military Badge Forum.

There are also some very helpful contributors to RootsChat's board for questions about the Armed Forces.

All I can say with any certainty, looking at the buttons and the sword, is that the image should be flipped (laterally inverted).

David

Thank you David,

I'll look around and let you know what I have discovered.

Regards,

Hugh
