Valentine Blanchard

I added a stereo view by Valentine Blanchard to my recent acquisitions over the weekend and checking my collection last night , having researched him, I discovered another beauty of his I believe in my holdings.  Its a view of the Bank Of England. This one is slightly unique as it has on the left a blind stamp from the San Francisco publishers and distributors. Lawrence and Houseworth. The link explains they sold London Sterescopic Company views. Make interesting reading.  I have found quite a few good links about Blanchard who clearly has largely been forgotten by many.

  • Hello Stephen -- Most interesting USA connection. In the GW Wilson book casing I posted on this site, there was one Val. Blanchard -- Sunset at Ryde, #123 P1170761.JPG along with 16 GWWs. This view was compared to Wilson in a Dec.1862 review in The Photographic Journal. I believe the book casing belonged to someone close to Mr Wilson, for this and other reasons... Edward
