William Peach Robinson

Does anyone know of a photograph by William Peach Robinson of Leslie's painting of "Juliet and the Poison Bottle" (a scene from Shakespeare).   I believe the photo was exhibited in London in 1856 or 1857.

  • Yes, I do mean Henry - don't know why I put William.  Thank you very much indeed for this information and I will ask to see t it next time I'm up in Bradford.  Does Ms. Harker's book say where the picture was originally taken? I'm assuming Leamington but since the print was made in 1857 he might not have moved there by that time.

  • You mean Henry Peach Robinson, I think. According to Margaret Harker's biography of H.P. Robinson (pubd. Basil Blackwell, 1988) this print was made in 1857 and exhibited in London in 1858. I also note that a photograph entitled 'Juliet' (which may also be the one you want) was exhibited in Glasgow in 1859. According to Margaret Harker, the only known original is at the Royal Photographic Society (it should now be at the National Media Museum in Bradford).

    I hope this helps.
