Antonio Giannuzzi: Mosquée de l'Imam Reza, Mashhad, Iran

Waxed paper negative, 7.67 x 9.52 in. (195 x 242 mm), 1858-59/1858-59, unmounted. #12132. The positive version is reproduced in Bonetti & Prandi, La Persia Qajar (2010), p.189. Many of the pilgrims come to pay homage to the Imam Reza shrine. The second largest holy city in the world, Mashhad attracts more than 20 million tourists and pilgrims every year. Provenance: family of Armenian merchants.
