Comment by michaelg on June 28, 2009 at 5:42pm - Apart from the fact that it is a magnificent composition it also shows the method of construction. Every plate and component was fabricated off-site, drilled and assembled using nuts-and-bolts. In a sense it was a giant "Meccano set". It was then disassembled and reassemble on site - again using nuts-and-bolts. As each nut-and-bolt was removed it was replaced by a hot rivet - using William Arrol's Hydraulic Riveting machine. constructed insitu.
