Falkirk Amateur Photographic Association c1890

The Falkirk History Archive, held by Falkirk Community Trust, contains extensive records of the local newspaper, the Falkirk Herald. The issue of 23rd March 1889 contains a notice entitled Formation Of FAPA which details the formation of the Falkirk Amateur Photographic Association with Mr William Graham as President and Mr George Muirhead as Vice President. There have been various incarnations of the group, interruptions by two World Wars, and the eventual formation of the Falkirk Camera Club on 17th April 1958.This is one of the earliest photographs of F.A.P.A. members, photographed at Callendar House, Falkirk c1890’s. To mark the 60th Anniversary of the group under the moniker of Falkirk C.C., we arranged for current members of our group to gather at the same spot, with the resulting photographs being exhibited alongside their 1890’s counterparts as part of an exhibition telling the story of the group which ran in Falkirk Town Hall during April and May 2018.We cannot identify individual members of this original group but have donated the Then & Now photographs to the Falkirk History Archive where we identify current Falkirk C.C. members, some of whom provided a short biography of themselves for the benefit of future generations.
