Derby Master Class

I'm researching the Derby Master Class project.  Initiated by Nigel Trow at the Derbyshire College of Higher Education in 1975/76 it brought a number of internationally recognised photographers to the course at the institution.  It ran for several years as a very distinctive feature of the course before gradually reverting to a more recognisable Visiting Artist…See More

Most useful Brian...goodness knows how I missed him...his name does appear on my list between Horvat in Jan. and Charbonnier end May into June...and with the dates as you have them...  But I don't seem to have any material re. it or - sadly - any photos (most unlike Richard!?) I'm checking through again but yes if there's stuff I can look at I'm online at;

cheers

Gernsheim's masterclass was held between 11-14 May 1977. I remember Richard Sadler getting him to sign some of Gernsheim's volumes. I seem to have inherited Jane Bregazzi's Master Class Programme. She was a 3rs Yr when I was in 1st. This contains reprints of his texts from Motif magazine as well as a copy of his David Octavius Hill Memorial Lecture, reprinted from Creative Camera. This and other items are listed on my  current booklist which I can send you as a Word document if you email me at brianstokoe@gmail.com

Best wishes on your research

Brian

I attended Minor White's lecture when he came to Trent and he travelled on the same coach with us (with Ray Moore) to London when he gave a similar talk at the V&A. I also attended Helmut Gernsheim's masterclass lecture at Derby, 'From Niepce to Moholy Nagy'. I didn't know about Allan Sekula's visit although I did meet him at a photography conference at Newcastle some years later.
