"Hi Lynette - I was always under the impression that he used cyanotype as did others at the time as a way of proofng his negatives. It was and is very cheap, works on a variety of papers and given the amount of UV aailable would have been realtively…"

Donald Stewart commented on Michael Wong's blog post Margaret Watkins: A new photo exhibition
"To Mike Ware - Hi Miike, Having seen the Watkins early prints close to, they certainly appear to be either Pt or Pt/Pd. My best guess would be the later but will bow to your greater knowledge of these things. The tonality is certainly warm but this…"

Night Photographers

I'm trying to get some biographical material on Harold Burdekin and John Morrison who jointly published a book on night photography of London circa 1930 and on the photography of Alfred Howarth Blake, founder of The Society of Night Photographers of England and London Correspondent of American Photographer, member of the Linked Ring, nickname "Cockney"  active around the turn of the 20th century.  Any help, pointers etc., will be appreciated.

Dear Donald, Thank you for thinking of us. I'm sorry I've been very quiet lately - it has been a busy semester. I did hear with a great deal of envy how wonderful the trip to Paris was. A trip specifically oriented toward 20th century would be quite fantastic. The thing that has prevented us from traveling so far is of course cost. In the coming years it will be even more of an issue I'm afraid. But I'd love to hear any proposals. A quicker response from me would be forthcoming from my work email... kewilder@dmu.ac.uk... but I will be out of town for 2 days so will answer next week. Best WIshes, Kelley

Hello Donald, Nice to hear from you. Yes I think we did meet. For the part time curriculum, you would need to be here once a week during term time, for a full day. We are trying very hard to organize it so even people from a distance can take part. Many of our days include visits to archives, although many of them are near us, or in London. We do spend a week in Bradford. Much of our content is delivered on a wiki, but the face to face meetings and workshops are critical to the learning process (as you will no doubt agree). One of our full time students comes quite a distance and has taken a room here. He stays 3 days of the week and goes home on weekends. That is also possible. Please do grill Michael when you see him at the weekend, and if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Best wishes, Kelley
