Information and discussion on all aspects of British photographic history
Emma Heslewood has not received any gifts yet
I am a historian and museum curator with extensive knowledge of historic photography, early cinema and British social history. For 14 years I worked at the Harris Museum & Art Gallery in Preston, Lancashire. My interests include uncovering the lost biographies of regional photographers and film makers and understanding the impact of new visual technologies on Victorian and Edwardian society.
While at the Harris I curated four photographic exhibitions: Robert Pateson - A Scientific Philosopher the life and work of an early photographer; The Crimean War - Photographs by Roger Fenton; Life through the Lens - Photographs of the Weld Family and Visions of an Industrial Age - the photographs of Charles Wilson.
I am currently researching the life and work of Will Onda (1869-1949). Onda was an acrobat and entertainer who became a successful cinema owner and film maker based in Preston, Lancashire. He set up the Preston Film Service and imported, made and distributed films. See my blog http://emmaheslewood.wordpress.com
