Pauline Heathcote's Archive of her research notes and letters for her publications is temporarily unavailable. The archive was stored in the attics at Bromley House and has had to be removed and stored off site while the library roof is repaired and the floors strengthened. We expect to reopen early in 2020.

2016 marks 175 years since the first recorded photograph, a daguerreotype, was taken in Barber's studio in Bromley House Library,Nottingham.
We would like to mount an exhibition celebrating Victorian photography in our picture gallery, in September and October this year. Unfortunately the Science museum want to charge a huge amount for each jpeg and the V and A even more.
Is anyone aware of a more generous institution that would allow us to print and exhibit some good quality…

Bromley House, a private members library in Nottingham City centre has an interesting photographic history. It was the home of one of the first commercial photographic studios in the country when Alfred Barber opened a daguerreotype studio in 1841 under licence from Richard Beard.
