William England still lifes

Hi everybody! There seem to be a couple of  “still lifes” in William England’s series “Gems of Statuary by Eminent Sculptors”. I know of a skeleton leaves stereo view entitled “Beautiful in Death” and a floral arrangement – “A Thing of Beauty is a Joy forever”. Are there any more? It would be great if you could share information and/or provide scans (also of “A Thing of Beauty”). Many thanks for your support!Best regardsGerlind(e-mail: william.england@web.de) See More

William England / research

Hi everybody!

I am a photo historian from Germany and I am writing a PhD thesis on
William England at the University of Hamburg. I would like to find out more about
the early phase of England’s career. He is supposed to have worked as a
daguerreotypist in the 1840s. – Does anybody have further information on
this? I would be grateful for any other hints or suggestions regarding
(private) collections etc. Please contact me by e-mail:
william.england@web.de

Thanks and best regards, Gerlind

Dear Gelind,
I would be delighted to help and share information. Did you know that William England was related by marriage to Walter Bentley Woodbury?

Hi Gerlind
I collect stereoviews of the Alps and my interest in William England is purely his Alpine Club series. I have around 300 of these views, which is maybe around one third of the total issued including variants. I am also a member of the Alpine Club. They possess an album of photographs from his first tour of the Alps in 1863 with 150 images in it (24 5x4 inch and 126 stereo singletons).
happy to help on anything to do with this series of photos
regards
Peter
