My reasons for building the collection

Photography has been made a part of our way of life and become a means of expression and communication of vital importance.

Apparently, all publications on photography, on its history, or on any facet of photography, customarily are presented above all with photographs, accompanied with pertinent text. After all, photography belongs to important sphere of visual arts.

However, besides photographs themselves, there are other aspects of present and past existence of photography – relative industry and trade, people professionally or amateurishly involved, and all others making use of it in any way - they had to communicate with one another, exchange messages, documents, materials and merchandise, in a word – to employ postal services.

This kind of activity used to leave behind material traces in form of letters, covers, companies’ stationery, labels and other pertinent documents used in postal procedures, the material which usually was carelessly treated, disregarded, which even was neglected, passed over, wasted, and consequently lost. Those found to be still extant may authenticate the past existence of long-forgotten manufacturers, merchant companies, studios, photographers... and often are sole evidence of their being.

Such minute artefacts slowly, little by little, when added to other data, completing are - like arranging a jigsaw puzzle - the never-ending account of the presence and significance of those who in various ways contributed to photography during past years...

The popularity and attractiveness of photography have significantly appeared in all aspects of everyday life – therefore also in documents issued by Post or just serviced by Post.

Postage stamp, a basic postal issue, on principle being kind of currency to pay postal services, has in time become also bearer of remembrance of people, and of significant and memorable events or anniversaries. Its appealing power has caused, as a result of its mass use, presenting with other postal issues - also personalities and events from the world of photography.

Examples of all collected photographica that were pertaining to postal services have been presented in the website a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.photographyinphilately.com%3E">www.photographyinphilately.com>;.
