Peter Domankiewicz commented on Peter Domankiewicz's blog post Request: Do you have the first Kodak manual?
"Thank you so very, very much David Gardner - that is precisely what I needed. Indeed, was hoping that someone here might have the manual from the centenary repro of the first Kodak. I would very definitely be interested in photographs of an original…"

"John - thanks for that suggestion. It is the diagram I need right now, but that image is also useful. Edith - you might well assume that but I haven't yet, so thanks for the suggestion."

"Are we to assume that you have already contacted the George Eastman Museum in Rochester NY? I would think that their Technology Department or their Library rare book collection would have a copy of this brochure or they would know where there is…"

John Marriage commented on Peter Domankiewicz's blog post Request: Do you have the first Kodak manual?
"Not exactly what you seek, but there is a reasonably detailed brochure, with an illustration of the roll mechanism, as #1888-2 in the "Digitized Kodak Catalog Project" CD. A version of it is also…"

Request: Do you have the first Kodak manual?

As part of my PhD research I am taking a close look at the first Kodak cameras 1888-90, gleaning what I can from photographical journals, biographical material about George Eastman and promotional literature. For illustration purposes, I would like a good copy of the diagram of the film path and mechanism in the first of the Kodak cameras, to be found in the manual which…See More

William Friese Greene College Street Bath

"John, thank you for the extra details, which I have noted. I would point out that I said nothing about the reason for the demolition. However, I did state that the house was demolished to extend car parking in the talk I gave in Bristol in 2019,…"

William Friese Greene College Street Bath

"It was later established that this was not the house where William Green (later Friese-Greene) was born. The error came about because the street was renumbered, meaning it had been changed from 12 to 69. An image of the correct building, where a…"

Eastman Stripping Film

I would be very pleased to be put in contact  with anyone who has detailed knowledge of the Eastman stripping film (AKA American Film) that became available in 1885. I research principally into the very beginnings of motion picture technology 1880-1896. Many of the pioneers used rolls of paper negative and stripping films in their experiements and I want to know more about the issues this would have presented.I have struggled to find images of negatives from stripping film, whether stripped or…See More
