Research: Bromoil process

The Bromoil Circle of Great Britain is compiling a list (at the moment very short) of any bromoil related archive collections in the UK. The secretary Brian Iddon would be interested if anybody has any information relating to the Bromoil Process or Bromoilists were work is held in any institutions, museums, libraries etc.See More

Thanks for reply.

The RPS collection which was in Bradford & now at the V+A (is not yet open to the public) they have I understand 140 of John St Aubyn prints. They are not listed and were only discovered a few years ago after my inquiry.

There are about 15 prints in Birmingham City Library Archive but I believe this Photographic collection is now permanently closed.

So the only prints you could see at present are the 30 I own.

The Camera Club in London have a small collection of his prints, they are framed  I believe.

Hope this helps. Jeremy

Dear Brian

I have been collecting & recording the Bromoil and other images work of John Grenville St Aubyn FRPS for some years. See my web site www.jokphotography.co.uk for a page of some of his images.

I have 30 of his original Bromoil prints & know of the whereabouts of about 175 others in private & public collections. John had over 200 prints accepted in the London Salon during his lifetime and I don't think this number has been surpassed.

I have many personal photographic items of John's, although I never knew him.
