Information and discussion on all aspects of British photographic history

I could not resist sharing this albumen print taken in about 1880s.

I admired its content and composition which I think is outstanding.

I would appreciate any clarification about the location. Could it be Ramsgate?

Hello Meir

I'm sorry, I can't identify the location, but the date is c.1894-8. This is indicated by the evidence of dress, particularly that of the ladies and girl in the foreground. Perhaps the time frame will help in some way.

I am not a local to the Margate area but I think this photograph is of Newgate Gap, Cliftonville, Margate. It's possible the bathing machines in the background were owned by the Pettman family.
