Photohistory thesis wins Coleman Prize

A PhD thesis examining the growth of British photographic manufacturing and retailing between 1839 and 1914 has won the Association of Business Historian's 2012 Coleman Prize for the best PhD in business history. Named in honour of the British Business Historian Donald Coleman, the prize is awarded annually to recognise excellence in new research in the field and is open internationally.

Michael Pritchard's PhD thesis was undertaken at De Montfort University between 2007 and 2010 under the supervision of Professor Roger Taylor. A revised version of the thesis will be appearing in book form.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I wasn't going to blog this but someone suggested I should do so as it was of wider interest...

Congratulations Michael. Would be interested to know which publishers you think of approaching as I have yet to find a publisher for my thesis.

Sometime soon I want to talk to you about thoughts I am having re. the core values of photography and the influence of the effort made in taking a photograph as related to the perceived quality in the outcome. This is prompted by the work Rita and myself are doing re. the N Lib Wales and Ifor and Joy Thomas. This work is going well. Regards

Congratulations, Michael. I have a question for you which I now realise you might be able to answer.

Very well done, indeed. His family know how hard he worked during that period. Now let's see the book of the thesis (and then the film of the book!!)
