"To me these look like just offset images from photos placed in the book in contact with these pages, not actual prints per se.  Carbon prints are usually very strong and rich."

Found image - process is it an autotype/carbon print?

I acquired many years ago, probably from a fair or garage sale, a copy of the seventh edition of 'The Dictionary Of Photography', by E. J. Wall F.R.P.S. publ: Hazell,Watson, & Viney, Ltd. 1897. I was perusing the volume last evening and realised the pamphlet contained loosely within the volume had two images, one very faint, a man and a woman, printed on it. Photographer unknown

I have two photographs image size each 2.5" X 3.5" printed on a heavy semi gloss paper but irregularly cut.

They are in the style I think of Cecil Beaton and C1930s?

I am reasonably sure I have seen the girl with the basket of fruit published, perhaps in BJP?
