From Victorian portrait studios to contemporary social documentary photography, Colin Harding explores all aspects of the history of photography in the East End in this talk. He will look at how photographs of the area have been used for individual purposes, campaigns and journalism and their impact at a local and national level. The talk will be illustrated with many examples of historic photographs drawn from the collection of the National Media Museum, Bradford.
Colin Harding is Curator of Photographic Technology at the National Media Museum in Bradford. He has written numerous books and articles on the history of photography and writes a monthly column for Black & White Photography magazine. His most recent book, Classic Cameras, was published by the Photographers’ Institute Press in June 2009.
