The National Portrait Gallery will present Husbands & Wives until 11 July 2010. This exhibition presents a glimpse at the private lives of Australian couples and families through rare portrait photographs from the nineteenth century. Drawn from the collection of the National Portrait Gallery and from collections in Canberra and interstate, Husbands & Wives is an exhibition that traces the emergence of photography and its impact on portraiture in Australia, profiling in the process the work of some of our most significant early artists and photographers.
