The Institute of Conservation (ICON) Photographic Materials Group are pleased to announce a one-day event in Liverpool, a city with a strong photographic heritage which is celebrated across the many cultural heritage institutions based there. The action-packed day will include a tour behind the scenes of National Museums of Liverpool Conservation Centre to look at the Stewart Bale Photograph Collection – an archive of commercial, architectural and industrial photography which has recently been the subject of a large volunteer project to clean and rehouse the collection. We will then move onto Liverpool Archives, situated in the newly refurbished Library Building with specialist photographic storage. Here a buffet lunch will be provided during which the ICON PhMG AGM will take place. After lunch we will be given a tour of the Liverpool Archives new Conservation Laboratory and archive store cold rooms. Their photographic archive is a designated collection of national importance and includes the Chambré Hardman collection, co-owned by the National Trust, detailing the work of renowned Liverpool photographer Edward Chambré Hardman.
In the afternoon we have two optional extras for participants to discover Liverpool’s wide variety of photographic and cultural attractions:
Chambre Hardman House, Rodney Street.
