An interdisciplinary and international team of distinguished photograph historians, scientists and conservators will be presenting groundbreaking information about historic and contemporary platinum and palladium photography in Washington, D.C. at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian on October 22-23, 2014.
You can access the full program here: http://www.conservation-us.org/platinum
In addition to the Symposium there are one-day behind-the-scenes tours of the National Gallery of Art, Library of Congress, and the National Museum of American History. Participants will see rare examples of historic and contemporary platinum and palladium photographs in this all-day tour offered on the days immediately before and after the symposium (October 21 and 24).
This event will be a tremendous opportunity to expand knowledge in all things platinum and palladium. During the event you will be able to visit two shows of platinum prints - "Indelible: The Platinum Photographs of Larry McNeil and Will Wilson" at the National Museum of American Indian and "A Subtle Beauty: Platinum Photographs from the Collection" at the National Gallery of Art.
There will be an opening reception for the symposium on October 22nd that is being partially sponsored by The Better Image, Charles Isaacs Photographs, Hans P. Kraus, Jr. Fine Photographs, Image Permanence Institute, Paul M. Hertzmann, Inc., Throckmorton Fine Art, Inc., and Starr Hill Brewery, who will be generously providing the aptly named Double Platinum Imperial India Pale Ale.
