Robertson and Beato photographs of the Crimean War

Dear Colleagues

I should like to know what holdings there are in British public collections. I am aware of the V&A holdings but not of others. Many thanks - Mark Haworth-Booth

Hi Mark

The J. Paul Getty Museum obtained a massive hoard of Beato's work in 2007, some 834 images. I expect some Crimean images were amongst those.

Cheers!

Thank you very much, Marcel! It's really the public collections in the UK I am focusing on but it is useful to have the other references too.

The Silvy book is at the design stage and is looking very handsome, thank you. All best, Mark

Hello Mark,

We're not a public collection but for reference we have a dozen prints by Robertson - although they are very faded.

Best wishes, Sarah
Hi Mark,

Presumably you will have already seen the Robertson images at the National Army Museum?

John
