"A quick point on Ken's post. Eliot and Fry were working at 55 Baker Street at least as early as 1867. There are advertisements by them for that address in the London Trade directories."

"Are you sure it is a daguerreotype and not an Ambrotype? Eliot and Fry were at that address 1865-1885. In the UK there is virtually no work with the daguerreotype process at late as that. Claudet continued to make stereo-dags, but contemporaries…"

Elliott & Fry daguerreotype found - help requested

A year or so ago, I found a tinted daguerreotype of an unidentified young lady by Elliott & Fry (E&F). The case and lining paper behind the daguerreotype carry the E&F name and address (55 Baker St., London). The shape of the case and mount window seem quite unusual.

I am puzzled by this item for two reasons.

1. E&F were…

Help requested with an album of Bethesda images, including slate mining

I'd be interested in any information members can give me with respect to an album of fairly small images that I think were taken in or around Bethesda, a slate mining town in Wales. Some of the images show work at the slate mines and these images often have numbers and notes to the back. Other images show life in the town or the countryside around it. Many…

Information request: British colonialists in India

Fairly recently I acquired a large and interesting album that appears to have been compiled by a British family managing a tea plantation in India, possibly around Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The photographs are a mixture of personal photographs, most likely taken by an enthusiastic amateur, and (presumably purchased) professional photographs by people such as…

William Edward Kilburn - Painted salt prints

I've been lurking for a while but this is my first post. I acquired a pair of painted salt prints stamped 'Mr. Kilburn 222 Regent Street'. I assume these are by William Edward Kilburn but I cannot find other examples of painted salt prints by him.

Can anyone point me in the direction of other examples or tell me more about the ones I have (date…
