"Hi Rebecca All I can suggest (which you've probably already thought of) would be to photograph the page with quite a strong light behind it, shining through the page. Then play around with the image in Photoshop or similar, trying out different…"

How to identify the negative print of a card de visite within an old autograph Album?

Dear all,in 2018 I`ve purchased an autograph Album dating back to the year 1862. Yesterday I flipped through the Sarah Dobbs`s autograph Album and it came to my attention that there must have been a Card de Visite laid into the Album which is now lost. The Card de visit must have been in the Album for a very very long time as on the opposite side of the page there is like a negative print. It is only like a shadow but letting the light shine through the page you can slightly see an image. The…See More

Quest to find all photos of Sarah A Cooper (maiden name: Dobbs of the White Hart Inn, Chepstow, Wales)

Dear all,I do a private research on the life of Sarah Ann Dobbs who was born 1839 and lived at the White Hart Inn, Beaufort Square, Chepstow, Wales, which was owned by her parents James and Elizabeth Dobbs. Her oldest brother James Dobbs was a well known so called "four in hand coacher" in Chepstow. Sarah married Henry Poolly Cooper (a native of Chepstow, too) and immigrated around 1868 to the USA. She first lived with her family in New York, then in Kansas and died 1925 in Denver, Colorado,…See More

"HI Mike, below picture of Victoria and family photographed by Mayall is also pasted in the album and might be of the same source of newspaper as the "Garibaldi" portrait. Maybe this helps, too. Best regards, Rebecca"

Lori Pauli replied to Rebecca Talbot's discussion Identification - Civil War Officer Photography taken from album dated 1862
"Hi Rebecca I suspect that this might be a portrait of Giuseppe Garibaldi (1820-1884) - and not an image of a civil war solder. See for example these  portraits of him wearing a similar shirt and carrying a similar sword."
