This albumen print is a portrait of captain WH Barten. Identified on a separate paper. 

Does someone know more about this type of uniform? I bought it with UK provenance.

UPDATE: CdV of John Herschel by Julia Margaret Cameron on Bazar Nadar / Discount offer

A rare carte de visite of Sir John Herschel (1792-1871) by Julia Margaret Cameron (Cox & Ford no. 674). Photographed 4-7 April 1867.

Herschel was a famous astronomer and the inventor of the cyanotype.

With the copyright of Cameron under the print. Also written in fountain pen in an unknown hand 'Sir John Herschel, Célèbre astronome Anglais'…

Research request: Watkins & Hill: stereo daguerreotype of Wellington

Where can I find more information about 'Watkins & Hill', Opticians from London. I bought a stereo daguerreotype from them, depicting the 1st duke of Wellington. Were they photographers? Or only resellers? 

In my current library I can't find much... So I would like to learn more!
