In celebration of International Women's Day 2018, I have started a new blog highlighting early women photographers.
Some have not been studied previously and the blog will focus on pre-1860 photographic activity. It will hopefully build into a useful online biographical resource starting with the third female member of the Photographic Society, Mary Ann Boulton.
Any additional information regarding these pioneering women is welcomed.

The restoration of Robert Howlett's grave is complete. Restorers lifted the memorial plinth on Tuesday 1st August and, after some remedial work beneath, installed a new bespoke concrete base. The plinth was then lowered onto this solid base which replaced crumbling, unstable brickwork, and will support his Yorkstone memorial indefinitely.

In 2015 I rediscovered the grave of Victorian photographer Robert Howlett and started researching his short life with the intention of producing his comprehensive biography. As a consequence of his early death he left no will, diary, family documents or artefacts so this has been a considerable uphill task.
