Wanted: Photographs of troops and civilians making craft objects in contexts of wars, 20th-21st centuries

For my current book project, I am looking for photographs of troops making craft objects to cope, heal or rehabilitate from injury or trauma associated with wars of the 20th and 21st centuries. I am also looking at civilians making craft to cope and to send items to troops in training or abroad. By craft, I mean objects made mainly by hand, using clay, fibers, metals, wood, and paper, and that tend to be valued for their hand-made properties in contrast to machine-made mass produced and distributed consumer goods. With thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hello Jennifer, If of interest, I have a post card, captioned ' AN OLD CRIPPLED SOLDIER MAKING WOOLWORK PICTURES', published in 'The Star Series', by G.D. & D., London. The post card includes a message on the back with a date (26th June 1912)  and is also post marked 26 June 1912. Here's a poor quality reference snap (taken with a mobile phone). If you like, I can digitise properly? Best wishes, Jamie

My pleasure, hope your project goes well ... I didn't realise you were in Texas, but hopefully the archives people will be helpful!

Hello, Jennifer, I don't know if you've come across the Erskine organisation in Scotland. It's now run as a care home, but when I looked it up I found this blog article which suggests there may be some digitised photographs which may be the kind of thing you're looking for. https://blog.archiveshub.jisc.ac.uk/2017/06/02/archives-of-the-ersk... - it was very well known when I was growing up in Scotland, particularly as Haig of Poppy Appeal fame was also from Scotland. All the best with your research. Anne
