12201054896?profile=original1894 seems pretty late for a tintype, but I am sure this show my 3 x Great Uncle Frank Walton's second wedding to Mary Bailey in Halifax in March 1894. Its certainly a great photo in terms of resolution and we know 4 of the 5 people in the photo.

Any comments on the photo would be of interest...

Regards

Peter

  • Ref this photograph, we now know that in was in 1894 and was the wedding photograph of Frank Walton and mary Ann Bailey nee Brewer. Behind them on the right is Frank's daughter, Louisa Blanchett nee Walton aged 34. In the middle, George Archer Blanchett (aka George Eugene Belmont) and on the left Matilda 'Tilly' Barnes nee Bailey, Mary's eldest daughter.

Sheila Masson - is there a chance you can post the 1903 Tintype by Frank Walton that you referred to in previous note ?

    Many thanks

    Peter

  • Hi Sheila,
This image is not dated but I know the wedding took place in 1894. Ron kindly published a bio of Frank Walton on his site some years ago. I would be very interested in a scanned copy of the 1903 tintype. I have a postcard photograph that he did as late as 1915 when he was 81 and working from home in Crimbles St Leeds. His earliest work was in Boston Lincs in the 1870's. I have now found 8 photographers in my family..JT Stewart in Bicester, Rob Henry John W, Will H Hammond in Bacup Mexborough Hull barrow in Furness, Nelson. JT Towler and Edward Stephen Clowes.
    Thanks
    Peter
  • Hi Peter,

I have many examples of tintypes made in the 1890s in my collection (and indeed into the early 20th century), as has fellow collector Ron Cosens, so your family photo is most probably correct. Furthermore I have a record of a Frank Walton tintype taken in 1903. I'm presuming the date of your image was written somewhere - could you post a scan of that if possible/relevant?

    Thanks,
    Sheila Masson
