Research on British Seaside ambrotypes

For a new photographic history book on British photography (my 49th photo history text) I am trying to find information on the cameras that took the ambrotype and tintype British seaside and street photographs of the 1870-1910 time period. Supposedly the cameras had apparatuses or came with a portable apparatus that quickly developed the plate.

thanks

  • Hi Stanley, I am in touch with collectors and researchers interested in the subject of seaside photography, some of whom are members of this forum. I have looked at British seaside and street photography and its connections and parallels with the practice elsewhere in the world, especially Australia. My period of interest extends up to the 1950s. I would be happy to discuss this further. With respect to the camera, if you haven't already, I would suggest contacting Colin Harding, formerly of the National Media Museum. http://britishphotohistory.ning.com/profile/ColinHarding. Cheers!
