Hi All

This is my first post and hope I have put it in the correct place.

I am currently researching Victorian Post-Mortem photographs and its relation to symbolism in Art for my MA dissertation and have come to a point where I am trying to discover information on the commercial photographers and the props they used and anything they or others have written about the staging of these photographs especially in the domestic setting.  I have some good information about commercial photographers from Marcel Safier's website, Audrey Linkman's book Photography and Death has given me some good pointers and have accessed some photographs to use, but now my interest is taking me to who were these commercial photographers and why did they stage the photographs in such a way in the domestic setting.  Lots of the photographs I have seen have all got very similar objects regarding the symbolism etc but was hping to find out how much input the commercial photographers would have had in the say of this.

Any pointers or information would be greatly appreciated, and I am not fussy which part of the world it is relevant to.

Also if you have any information of the relationship between photography and art during the Victorian era (I have read too many books to list here) I would be really interested.

Thank you. Geraldine
