Information and discussion on all aspects of British photographic history
Would be nice to put a date to this studio shot and the stereo viewer on the table.
I know the image is from Ontario area and the subject was Levi Armitage as that is pencilled on the back.
Just purchased my first tabletop viewer this week which is very similar design. Mine is French and one would assume so is the tabletop shown
Having a wood turner replace the original eye pieces on mine which have snapped off . They were egg shell thin . Searching for one of the spring retainers to hold one of the lens firmly in. That is my job for the day. I would be interested in conversations about restoration of these..

Hi Stephen,
Thomas Gourley was active in Lindsay, Ontario between 1862-1879. Three of his portraits reside in the collection at the National Gallery of Canada. Lindsay is located about 125 km northeast of the City of Toronto. See this site for more info: https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.northam.canada.ontario.v...
I hope this helps. Best, Steven
