Information and discussion on all aspects of British photographic history

Birmingham Professional Photographers Association

I’m trying to find out where records of this association might be held. Possibly BIPP, but wondering if anyone here as any other knowledge. Thank you!

Is this not the Birmingham branch of the PPA?

From the Bipp website:

“On 28 March 1901 one hundred photographers assembled at a hotel in Fleet Street, and unanimously formed 'The Professional Photographers' Association'. Branches were formed in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Hull and Liverpool.

By 1907 the membership stood at 757. Since then the numbers have pulsed up and down along with the times and there have been three name changes before settling with the British Institute of Professional Photography.”

The records of the BIPP and its predecessor bodies are held at the Library of Birmingham. I had the opportunity to see them recently. Feel free to contact me offline.
