In my continuing research on theatre promotion and 19th century photography studios in the US, I have been investigating the adaptation of photography products for retail advertising. Among the examples here at The New York Public Library are stereopticons with adverts on their cardboard frames, e. g. this one for Kate Claxton and Kitty Blanchard, who were touring the country in The Two Orphans. The advert takes up the space that would normally be used to promote the photography studio. https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/items/510d47de-b0fc-a3d9-e040-e00a18064a99
Do you know of other stereos that promote stores, rather than the subject of the image or the photographic studio?
Thank you.
