Since 1996, the peer-reviewed journal Études photographiques, published by the Société française de photographie, has been the French-language publication of record addressing the history of photography and visual culture. In May 2009, Études photographiques began publishing bilingual print editions, extending its content to a broader public – a reflection of its growing success. With contributions by noted scholars from France and abroad, subject to the rules of scholarly publication, Études photographiques provides academics and the arts community access to the most current research on visual objects.

Two issues are published per year, in May and November. Each 220-page issue is printed in colour and includes six articles and approximately 80 previously unpublished images. Book reviews are available on our website: http://etudesphotographiques.revues.org/

Études photographiques is published with the support of the Centre National du Livre, the CNRS and Ryerson University, Toronto.

Unfortunately, Etudes photographiques ceased publication with number 35 in 2017. However, all the issues are available online here: https://journals.openedition.org/etudesphotographiques/

For more information about the journal please look here: https://www.sfp.asso.fr/fr/etudes-photographiques-vm

I gave my complete run of the journal to the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona so there would be hard copy of the publication available as no libraries in North America have complete physical holdings. For more info contact the Archivist at CCP:https://ccp.arizona.edu/collections/research-archives

Études Photographiques (complete set: 1996-2017) nos. 1-35
Only holdings in North America (ICP [only 4 issues] & National Gallery of Canada [missing no. 1]) Ceased publication with no. 35.
