I am researching photography at the 1851 Great Exhibition and trying to unpick some references to Gabriel Harrison's "California News" daguerreotype (now in the Met. Museum) to have been exhibited in London at the Crystal Palace. Apparently the plate has a reference to this on the verso. However, it is not recorded in the 1851 catalogue, or at least the editions I have examined.
The 1851 exhibition catalogue does refer to an American C. C. Harrison exhibiting Daguerreotypes. I have considered this to be Charles C. Harrison.
I wondered whether you might be able to help unpick these threads and whether there is any evidence that "California News" was exhibited in London in 1851.
