As a fairly new member myself, let me welcome you to the British photographic history group.
Two years ago I was in Edinburgh and met up with the crime writer Ian Rankin at the Oxford Bar, where he bought me a beer on my birthday and also signed a book. The Oxford Bar is where his protagonist, Inspector John Rebus drinks, and it happens to be a real place in Edinburgh.
While there I invited Ian to come over to Charlottesville to attend The Virginia Festival of the Book, which was extended through me by the writer John Grisham who lives here. Ian already had other obligations in 2019, but expressed interest in trying to attend the following year. He then contacted John and the invitation was extended for Ian to attend this year, with both of them appearing in conversation together. So people were excited at the prospect of hearing these two writers together, both very successful at what they do.
Then, only a few weeks before the March event the plague hit in the USA and the book festival was cancelled. I am unsure if the 'third time is the charm' saying will hold up for 2021, although I hope so. I do owe Mr. Rankin a beer.

Hello Emma,
As a fairly new member myself, let me welcome you to the British photographic history group.

Again, welcome!
