I volunteer at the Morrab Library photo archive in Penzance. We have recently been given some images of west Penwith from an album by J W G Gutch. To learn more about Gutch I bought a copy of your book which I have enjoyed very much. I was, personally, particularly intrigued that amongst the housed visited or stayed in by Gutch was Alverton Cottage which happens to be my home. Would it be cheeky of me to ask if you could point me in the direction of the source of this information? I have obtained access to copies of two articles Gutch wrote for Photographic Notes but find no information as to places visited or his hosts. We also have a copy of a photograph of Alverton Cottage taken around 1860. It seems likely that it is by Gutch.
In this connection you mention the name A. Bennett. As well as digitising work at the library I am putting together a history of my house. A Mrs Peel who lived in the house for some time died in 1858 so the next inhabitant is of great interest to me.
Just spoken to Roger Watson regarding John Dillwyn Llewelyn's Cornish calotypes and he informs me you are writting a book on JDL. I'm researching Cornish connections and the early development of photography and wondered if you know the whereabouts, other than Swansea Museum, of other JDL calotypes?
