      Hi Patrick,

Thanks for sending me details of the Flickr website hosting your Crimean War images. I only have two comments on the titles. Firstly, this particular photograph of the Church of St Peter and St Paul is usually attributed to James Robertson/Felice Beato and not to Langlois/Mehedin. Secondly, the image of the 'Interior of the Redan' by Robertson/Beato that is identified with the number 7 after a star is actually the  'Interior of the Malakoff/Korniloff' Bastion. Indeed, the next picture on the website identifies it as such . I can also refer you to page 310 of my book entitled The Crimean War: Then and Now, a publication that  I can personally recommended if you have an interest in Crimean War photography (if I do say so myself!!).

      Cheers,

      David Jones

      Hi Patrick,

Thanks for your message. I would be interested in what other Crimean War photographs you have in your possession and seeing copies of some if possible. I know of some Robertson/Beato images that I know exist, but I have not seen in any detail.

Is the attached your Langlois/Mehedin image of the church of St Peter and St Paul?3654440824?profile=RESIZE_710x

      Cheers,

      David

Sorry Patrick, I was mislead by the title: "Choice Collection of English Facetiae Books."

    • Bert Sliggers February 23, 2019 12:34

OK. Do you know of the owner of this very important booklet, so I can read the complete text?

Hi Patrick, I am finishing now my article about the Dutch trade in pornographic books and photos (1890-1900) from Amsterdam to the rest of the world. The catalogue you posted on Flickr is very important for me. A part of the photos mentioned in the catalogue is my collection. Now I am curious to see the book part, the second part of the catalogue. Please, can you help me? Thank you very much in advance, Bert Sliggers

Hi Patrick, Did you already see the catalogue? Is there a part with pornographic books after the photo catalogue? I am very curious. Thank you in advance, Bert Sliggers

I am preparing an book about the Dutch history of pornography, between 1880-1930. Between 1895-1910 Amsterdam was the most important capital in Europe for the trade in smutty books and photos. So I was very happy when I discovered on Flickr a part of a catalogue for English, American and Canadian customers with a lot of pornographic material sent from Holland: CATALOGUE No. VI. of a choice collection of English Facetiae Books, Photographs, Lustful Jokes, Plates etc. 1893 of the Patrick Montgomery Collection. I think the second part of this catalogue with the book section was not copied. Can I order the book part of this catalogue for my study? That will be great. Thank you very much in advance. (In my collection I have several pornograhic photos which are mentioned in this catalogue)!
