Blog: Behind the scenes at Kodak and Ilford Ltd factories

Google Arts and Culture has pulled together a series of photographs showing photographs from the recent Daily Herald Archive digitisation which look behind the scenes at the British branch of Kodak, and of Ilford photography manufacturing in the 1930s.

It is sad that much of the silver based photo industry has disappeared but behind that, there must have been a huge infrastructure of research and production, to develop and make all the precision machinery, needed for film and paper production. The technical abilities of the Herald photographers, Jarché et al, must have been considerable to take such good photographs in very low light conditions.
