Job Summary 

The Project Cataloguer will play a vital role in our AIM Museum Fundamentals project to preserve and enhance access to the Museum’s photographic collection. The postholder will be responsible for the creation of detailed item-level catalogue records and interpretation which will be published on the Museum’s public-facing catalogue, Collections Online. This role is particularly important in the lead-up to St John Ambulance’s 150th anniversary in 2027 where visual storytelling will be of paramount importance.

About You 

• Hold a recognised archival postgraduate qualification, or be currently enrolled on a recognised archival postgraduate degree course
• Demonstrable experience of cataloguing photographic collections to ISAD(G) standard
• Experience of creating archive authority records to ISAAR(CPF) standards
• Significant knowledge of databases, specialist archive cataloguing systems and archival collection preservation requirements
• A clear passion for photographic collections
• Experience of contributing to a programme of public-facing talks, blog and social media posts
• Experience of working alongside volunteers

About the Role 

• Lead the enhanced cataloguing of photographic prints to item level following ISAD(G) and in-house guidelines
• Assist the Archivist in publishing the catalogue records
• Help to develop collection authority records
• Provide regular updates on cataloguing progress to the Museum team and collaborate with curatorial and learning colleagues as needed
• Assist the Archivist with inclusive public outputs in the form of 10-minute lunchtime talks and social media content to engage physical and virtual visitors

The Haas collection, homed at the Library of Birmingham archives, consists of 258 boxes. This is made up of around 90 boxes of developed photographic prints, 93 folders of celluloid negatives, 45 boxes of glass negatives, and around 30 boxes of miscellaneous documents including invoices, letters, lecture notes and more. The collection is yet to be fully catalogued - at the moment, items are boxed, but more work is needed to re-organise them, highlight preservation needs, and digitise highlights. The Bodleian Libraries are recruiting The Bern and Ronny Schwartz Curator of Photography, a post generously endowed by The Bern Schwartz Family Foundation. You will increase the impact of our photographic holdings by carrying out the full range of work in relation to our photographic archives including: providing reference services in relation to the collections; developing the collections; appraising and cataloguing photographic archives; and contributing to public engagement activities.

You can expect to work with incredible collections, documenting photography from its earliest days through to contemporary photography. This is a full-time, permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week. Start and finish times are flexible, but you should be present in the Weston Library during core hours of Mon-Fri 10am–4pm. This role is an onsite role. It may be possible to work from home one day per week, depending on current activities. • Based in the Royal Photograph Collection the role will entail working under the direction of the curator on cataloguing the remaining material in the collection, which is primarily 20th century. This ranges from official works by leading British photographers like Beaton, Snowdon and Lichfield, to press photographs and to personal snapshots taken by members of the Royal Family. . The role is for a fixed term of two years.

• Raphael Collection Cataloguer
• The Print Room is part of the Royal Library section of the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle. It is responsible for the works of art on paper in the Royal Collection, including old master drawings, eighteenth- and nineteenth-century watercolours, and prints – over 150,000 items in all. Among this material is the Prince Consort’s Raphael Collection, a unique assemblage of over 5,000 prints and photographs begun by Prince Albert in 1853 and intended to record every work by or after Raphael and his workshop.
  
  Although the Raphael Collection was catalogued in 1876 it has never been widely accessible, and the intention is now to record it on the Royal Collection’s Collections Management System (CMS) and make it available on the Royal Collection’s website. We are therefore seeking a cataloguer on a fixed-term basis, who will be responsible for entering information about each item to a uniform scholarly standard on the CMS.

As a member of the National Media Museum Project Team, you will ensure that object data is delivered on time and to a high quality to meet the needs of this project. This involves documenting up to 40,000 objects from iBase, enhancing object records and supporting authorities in the museum object database (MIMSY XG) in line with cataloguing standards and guidelines.
